KARACHI: The wedding festivities of Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi began with a mehendi ceremony in Karachi on Monday.
Shaheen tied the knot with legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s daughter, Ansha, in February earlier this year. The nikkah was solemnised at a local mosque in Karachi in presence of close relatives of both families.
The wedding will take place in Karachi, meanwhile, the valima will be held in Islamabad on September 19 (today) and September 21, respectively.
The couple’s engagement had already taken place two years ago.
Earlier this year, while speaking on Geo News show “Aik Din Geo Kai Sath”, the left-armer revealed that it was his wish to marry Ansha.
"It was my wish and Alhumdulillah [thanks to Allah Almighty] it is fulfilled now," a blushing Shaheen told the interviewer Sohail Warraich.
When Shaheen was asked whether Ansha feels jealous about his female fan following, Afridi said he is not sure about it.
"I am not sure, maybe she feels something like that," the cricketer quipped.
Further, the host asked Shaheen about upsetting plenty of female fans by getting engaged at an early age.
At this, Shahen said: "I found my heart and that's enough for me."
Shaheen to become vice-captain
In a significant development in Pakistan cricket, fast bowler Shaheen will likely be appointed as the vice-captain of the ODI and T20I teams, replacing Shadab Khan. This decision comes amidst Shadab Khan's recent struggle with form, which has raised concerns.
Leg-spinner Shadab Khan has faced a downturn in his performance, with statistics indicating that he took six wickets at an average of 40.83 in five matches during the Asia Cup 2023. His inclusion in the playing eleven has drawn criticism, particularly from fans and experts. Captain Babar Azam has been under scrutiny for persistently selecting Shadab Khan in the team.
Daily Jang reported that left-arm pacer Shaheen is the frontrunner to assume the role of vice-captain, replacing Shadab Khan. Afridi boasts an impressive international record, having played 27 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 52 T20Is while taking 255 wickets in international cricket.
